I thought the chance of getting to a VW Festival was going to be slim this year, as its been a busy wedding season. When I saw a free weekend matching the dates of our local Volkspower show. I booked it, packed it and ……… went!
This time it was a bit special as I took my little Bro and his fiancé Rachael who have never been to a VW Festival before.
I planned to make it extra special by bringing all of my best kit, just like when we went Glamping at The Hideaway, North Yorkshire.
They wanted for nothing with even a queen sized bed and a full sized sofa, all blow up of course or in the case of the air bed blow down as it popped on the first night.
Not a bother as the sofa folded down into a bed, a great little buy from Aldi at just £35.
Darren my Brother is into music and bands so this was always going to be up his street and we all really enjoyed The Baggy Monday’s on the second night as they did a bit of Oasis.
Here they are live at the event.
The Skabeats are the regular band for this festival and they always get the place rocking. It was a shame this year that the Revolutionaries were not on as they were my favourite last time I went, hopefully they will be back in a future event.
Our weekend consisted of comfy camping, cooking, eating, drinking, music, sophisticated chat by gas lamp, card games and a bit more drinking.
The formula must have worked though as I heard on the Grapevine Julie and I had been the perfect hosts and Darren and Rachael would happily go again.
My favorite meal of the weekend was pie and mash with gravy from the catering van Humble Pie. The best pie I have had in a long time and filled to the brim with meat, my mouth is watering now typing this up. A local farmer provides the meat for the filling and uses prime cuts of sirloin for the steak pie. It is the perfect hangover food.
Must say a big thank you to the Volkspower Team, especially Paul Power for bringing such a top quality, ever popular VW Show up North!
Want to see some cool cars and campers, feast your eyes on this lot, plus a few of us i.e. Me, my Little Bro and the two future Mrs Batey’s:
